Our addition and subtraction mat aids children with recognising the amount that is linked to it's number. By having the dots under the number, this allows children to count how many dots there are and see straight away the number that represents those dots, and begin to do basic addition and subtraction equations. For example the number 2 card, has two dots, the number 1 card has a single dot, add those together and you get the number 3 card that has three dots.
